It is common for a dog to have motion sickness. What are the causes and how they can be addressed? Follow our advice.
Sickness is a common problem in dogs. It concerns one in every six. It can take various forms: vomiting, droopiness, anxiety and irritability. How to deal with it if this happens?
Causes of motion sickness.
Dog is transport sick. The sickness of the dog’s transport can have different causes. It occurs most often in puppies: their inner ear, which is a true center of balance, is not yet fully developed. In the event of rolling or pitching, signals are sent to the brain causing malaise, nausea and possibly vomiting. It is also possible that the dog is completely stressed by a trip, either because it already had a bad experience or because it associates the vehicle with an unpleasant event for him, such as a visit to the veterinarian. But the dog can be phobic, have an uncontrolled fear of rolling, engine noise or whatever. Excessive salivation, repeated swallowing and persistent gasping are signs of nausea in dogs. Agitation and tremors characterize anxiety, which can lead itself to vomiting.

Tips for traveling well.
The first advice for who plans to make journeys with his dog is to accustom him very young. Your companion will have to be secured in the car, i.e. installed in a transport box or else where you will have slipped a blanket or a toy belonging to him. It is also important that you adopt a Zen behavior and that the dog has fresh air: open the windows. To calm a phobia or to accustom a dog to make trips by car, one can initially install it in a vehicle at rest, then start the engine without rolling. Then walk around the block, followed by a longer trip and so on. This should allow your companion to (ultimately) consider his or her transportation as an enjoyable experience. To do this, it is worth rewarding it at each step with a treat.
The medicinal solutions.
If your dog suffering from motion sickness due to purely physiological reasons, you may need to consider the drug solution. You will give your dog a preventive treatment, obviously prescribed by your veterinarian, before departure. Its effects usually last twelve hours and it is not uncommon for the drug to cause drowsiness.
Natural solutions also exist to prevent motion sickness. This can go through herbal medicine and homeopathy. Bach Flowers are likely to calm his anxiety. There are now Rescue Pet (non-alcoholic) sprays. Finally, be aware that cotton impregnated with a few drops of essential oils of peppermint and Roman chamomile placed in the cockpit is proved effective against nausea.
Age of dog.
Motion sickness occurs particularly in young dogs, it can also occur at any age. Just as it can disappear on its own.
